Mykola Tomenko: Several European Ski and Health Resorts should be built for the Investment Funds, rather than Budget Expenditures be allocated for the Sports Facilities for the non-existent in Ukraine Winter Sports
Asked about the possibility of organization of Winter Olympic Games 2022 in Ukraine, Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, stated that "it would be better for Ukraine and its citizens to build several European ski and health resorts for the investment funds rather than sports facilities for the non-existent in Ukraine winter sports at the budget expenditures".
He informed the mass media that he addressed the President of Ukraine with a suggestion of holding the Sports Forum of Ukraine in autumn to work out the strategy of physical culture and sports development.
M.Tomenko believes that the forum should involve the prominent sportspeople of Ukraine, and experts in physical culture and sports to develop the sports doctrine of Ukraine.
"We still live with the Soviet illusions, when Ukraine was positioned as one of the greatest sports states, and the struggle for the number of medals in professional sports was the key assessment of the sports development", he stated. M.Tomenko believes that these fields should be of priority under the conditions of decline of mass sports and physical culture. He is of the opinion that mass sports and physical culture, not the professional sports, should be of priority. "I support such state policy. Sports facilities for the young people should be built instead of struggling fort the permission for the Winter Olympic Games", the Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stated.
